It takes tremendous strength, focus and commitment to compete as a successful athlete. David uses these attributes to compete in triathlons and in the courtroom. David has been with DH&F for more than five years – first as a law clerk and then as an attorney beginning in 2002. He was listed in the 2007 Ohio Super Lawyers Magazine - Rising Stars edition. David takes great pride in providing “an unexpected level of dedication” to his clients as well as his students in the Otterbein College MBA program. David earned his Bachelor of Arts from Otterbein, where he was on the Dean’s List and was a member of three national honor societies: Pi Eta Sigma, Tau Pi Phi and Mortar Board. He was also a member of the varsity track and field and cross-country teams. He earned his Juris Doctor Degree from Capital University, where he was also on the Dean’s List and on Law Review.
PRACTICE AREAS
Labor and Employment Law
Representation of public and private employers in all areas of labor and employment relations, including all facets of contract negotiations, mediation, conflict resolution procedures, arbitration, and the daily administration of internal policies, state and federal laws, and collective bargaining agreements.
Representation of employers before administrative agencies pertaining to personnel matters, including the Ohio Civil Rights Commission, Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, U.S. Department of Labor, State Employment Relations Board, and State Personnel Board of Review.
Drafting of municipal civil service rules and advisement on compliance with both municipal civil service rules and Ohio civil service laws.
Preparation of employee handbooks, manuals, and policies for various clients. Dave advises clients on all issues relating to labor and employment relations and local government law, including FMLA, ADA and FLSA.
Civil Litigation
Representation of employers and their agents in litigation in both Federal and State trial and appellate courts of Ohio.
Dave represents employers in a wide range of employment law suits including unlawful discrimination and harassment, wrongful discharge, First Amendment retaliation charges, and Whistleblower actions.
Business Entity Formation
Representation of small- to medium-sized businesses with entity formation issues including formation of sole proprietorships, partnerships, limited liability partnerships and corporations and drafting of partnership and operating agreements.
Workers' Compensation
Assists clients in the development of policies and practices to minimize workers’ compensation liability. Representation of employers in Workers' Compensation matters as administrative hearings and in Court.
